| dc.description.abstract | This study was undertaken with the primary objective of assessing the suitability and capability of Sri Lanka Army logistics regiments in assisting in nation-building activities in the country. Findings from an extensive review of literature relating to nation-building revealed that the primary nation-building activities are political and governance activities, economic development activities, and cultural and social development activities. Based on these key findings from the literature review the conceptual framework consisting of three independent variables, namely cultural and social activities, economic development activities, political and governance activities, and one dependent variable nation-building activities, was developed for the study. Three hypotheses namely H1: Sri Lanka Army logistics regiments involvement in cultural and social activities has contributed significantly to nation-building in Sri Lanka, H2: Sri Lanka Army logistics regiments involvement in economic development activities has contributed significantly to nation-building in Sri Lanka, and H3: Sri Lanka Army logistics regiments involvement in political governance activities has contributed significantly to nation-building in Sri Lanka, was established by the researcher to test the conceptual model. A quantitative research design was adopted to test the hypotheses and realize the objectives of the study. The findings from the study revealed Sri Lanka Army logistics regiments contribute significantly to nation-building activities in the country. The study findings also revealed that Sri Lanka Army logistics units are suitable and capable for nation-building related cultural and social activities and economic development and activities, and are not suitable and capable for nation-building-related political and governance activities. Based on these findings, it is recommended that in order to enhance Sri Lanka Army logistics regiments suitability and capability to assistance in nation-building activities, they should be deployed more in nation-building-related cultural and social activities and economic development activities, and their involvement in political and governance-related nation-building activities should be reduced. | en_US |
