| dc.description.abstract | Findings from previous empirical studies indicated that there is a robust statistically significant inverse correlation between job stress and employee performance. Furthermore, findings from previous academic research also indicated that job stress among employees in most of organizations is extremely high. Despite this extensive academic literature regarding the inverse correlation between job stress and employee performance and high job stress, among tradesmen serving in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, no academic research has been conducted to analyze the impact ofjob stress on the performance of tradesmen currently serving in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps. This study was conducted to address this lack of research by identifying the main factors causing job stress among tradesmen in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, assess the relationship between job stress and performance, and provide recommendations for reducing stress and improving performance. The literature review revealed that job stress has a negative impact on employee performance, with work environment-related factors, job-related factors, and relationship-related factors being the main causes. A conceptual model was developed on work environment-related factors, jobrelated factors, and relationship-related factors causing job stress in tradesmen and affecting their performance. Three hypotheses were tested. suggesting that work environment related job stress, job related job stress and relationship related job stress ( job stress) has a significant relationship and impact on the performance of tradesmen. The study used a quantitative research design. The study sample consisted of 306 personnel serving in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps. The data collected through a self-administered questionnaire survey, and descriptive, correlation as well as regression analyses were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that work environment-related job stress, job-related job stress and relationship-related job stress are statistically significant factors in predicting the level of perfromance of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps treadesmen. Although, all the dimensions of job stress have a negative correlation with tradesmen performance, job related job stress among those dimensions have the strongest negative correlation with tradesmen performance. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps take immediate measures to reduce high stress levels experienced by tradesmen by addressing the job-related job stress, work environment-related job stress, and relationship-related job stress that are causing high job stress level in tradesmen. Successfully addressing these factors will reduce job stress and will enhance the performance levels of tradesmen currently serving in the Service Corps. | en_US |
