In general, procurement on time is crucial to retain the operational readiness of the SLAF. Foreign-procured aircraft spares are especially important in light of maintaining the fleets. Due to extended lead times of foreign procurement, spares availability cannot keep pace with such demand; hence, SLAF operational efficiency is affected. This research study discusses, analytically, the factors influencing supplier lead times while developing an optimal approach to provisioning aircraft spares for the SLAF. The financial instability, political considerations, logistics constraints, and technology challenges are the four significant factors analysed in this research in relation to the procurement lead time. Data were obtained through a structured survey from SLAF logistics officers directly involved in procurement. The effect of each factor on the lead time was studied by employing statistical analyses such as regression and correlation, while optimization models provided strategic solutions to mitigate the delays. The findings reveal that financial instability, like currency and inflation fluctuations, contributes a lot to lead times through unpredicted changes in prices and delays in making payments. On the other hand, there are also political influences, such as trade restrictions and customs regulations, where other time-consuming elements are added. Logistic impediments also hinder this timely procurement process, including hitches in transportation. Likewise, technological barriers, such as problems in the compatibility of systems, have also become a source of delay, which underlines the need for smooth digital procurement systems. It therefore contributes to the operational preparedness of the SLAF by providing data-driven insights and recommendations that reduce lead times in procurement. The practical solutions entail stronger practices in mitigating financial risks, effective communication with suppliers, and the adoption of a digital procurement system. These factors, once addressed, provide a framework through which the study optimizes the procurement process of the SLAF for timely spares availability and enhancement of mission capability.en_US
