<description>Weapons of sri lanka: from the earliest times up to independence
Tharupathini, Vismi; Wijekoon, Dilshani
From the ancient battlefields of Sri Lanka to the struggles for its independence, the weapons&#13;
have shaped Sri Lanka’s Military Powers, cultural identity and technological innovations.&#13;
While existing literature has shed light on various aspects of Sri Lankan weaponry, captivating&#13;
gaps still remain. The strategic use of weapons in particular conflicts, their impact on social&#13;
hierarchy and their role in shaping national identity require further exploration. Therefore, this&#13;
study conducts a comprehensive examination of the weapons utilized in Sri Lanka throughout&#13;
its history, spanning from the earliest times up to the independence of Sri Lanka in 1948. By&#13;
analyzing relevant literature, archival research, and analysis of primary sources such as&#13;
archaeological findings, inscriptions, and historical records, this study conducts qualitative&#13;
research that aims to provide an overview of the evolution and development of weapons in Sri&#13;
Lanka, their cultural and historical significance, and their impact on the country's military and&#13;
political history. Additionally, the study will also reveal the role of weapons in shaping Sri&#13;
Lanka's history, including its ancient kingdoms, colonial rule, and struggles for independence.&#13;
This research endeavour contributes to a deeper understanding of Sri Lanka’s Military History,&#13;
providing valuable insights for scholars, historians and those interested in the island nation’s&#13;
journey towards self-determination and also it will shed light into an understanding of the&#13;
cultural, social, and political significance of weapons in Sri Lanka and their impact on the&#13;
country's history and development.

<title>The strategic importance of sigiriya as a kingdom</title>
<link>https://ir.kdu.ac.lk/handle/345/8663</link>
<description>The strategic importance of sigiriya as a kingdom
Sharma, Thishastri; Ranaweera, Pradeep
Sigiriya, an ancient kingdom, demonstrates considerable strategic significance, as evidenced&#13;
by the technological and military strategies employed during its reign. A closer examination&#13;
of the tactics used in Sigiriya reveals that the kingdom's strategic importance was&#13;
multifaceted, underpinned by its innovative use of technology and its positioning, which&#13;
played a pivotal role in its defence and governance. Sigiriya served as a Platform for the&#13;
exercise of power and authority, as evidenced by the renowned lion gate and mirror wall,&#13;
which represent grandeur and opulence. What are the salient features of Sigiriya, what&#13;
ancient military thoughts that have influences the structure of Sigiriya, what architectural&#13;
design improved the strategic value of Sigiriya and what are the similar features of Sigiriya to&#13;
similar strategic sites of the region are the main questions discussed in the paper. The water&#13;
gardens, with their careful arrangements of elaborate pools and hydraulic systems, reveal&#13;
much about the ingenuity and sophistication of the kingdom’s water engineering technology.&#13;
This study is aimed to get to know about the salient features of Sigiriya, to compare Sri Lankan&#13;
ancient military strategies with ancient eastern strategies, to investigate the strategic value&#13;
of architectural designs and construction techniques used in creating Sigiriya and to compare&#13;
Sigiriya with other ancient sites and structures, similar with other ancient sites. To study this&#13;
phenomenon, should refer primary and secondary resources, studying the investigations done&#13;
by HCP Bell based on Sigiriya and getting information from other sources. This paper shows&#13;
that Sigiriya served as the main security headquarters and through its artistic creations, it was&#13;
evident that the kings lived peacefully without fear, Sri Lanka had an advanced military&#13;
strategy similar to the ideas of and Kautilya India and Indian lion capital of Ashoka lion paws&#13;
in Sigiriya show very clear similarities. This shows that the ancient military strategies have&#13;
been more advance than the future could imagine.

<title>Stability-instability paradox in nuclear south asia</title>
<link>https://ir.kdu.ac.lk/handle/345/8662</link>
<description>Stability-instability paradox in nuclear south asia
Ihagama, Kavitha; de Silva, Dr. Sanath
South Asia has its unique security characteristics, and the emerging complexities of nuclear&#13;
South Asia has created an environment more difficult to be understood. India and Pakistan&#13;
are two countries that possess nuclear weapons in the region. The dispute between the two&#13;
communities has been prevailing for an extended period of time since the independence from&#13;
the colonials and it has paved way to the separation of the two states in the end. India was&#13;
the first to become a nuclear power, and shortly after Pakistan followed. These two countries&#13;
are of the view that nuclear weapons contribute to balance of power therefore leads to peace&#13;
and security in the region. However, according to studies, during the non-nuclear period the&#13;
military provocations were less than in the nuclear period, and it has been identified the more&#13;
nuclear weapons a state acquires the more destabilize the region becomes. Therefore, this&#13;
research focuses on the challenges faced by non-nuclear states in South Asia due to nuclear&#13;
proliferation. This complex nature has conjured security issues in the region by promoting the&#13;
advancement of nuclear programs. States desire stability, and as a result of these behaviours&#13;
the security of the non-nuclear states in the region is also threatened. The objective of this&#13;
research is to identify how fragile deterrence works on balance of power in the South Asian&#13;
region. This research has been conducted through a qualitative method, and it has used&#13;
secondary sources in the data collection process.

<description>Rise of Chinese 5G technology competitiveness and global trends: implication Sri lanka’s national security
Weerasinghe, Sahara; Senevirathna, Asantha
In the recent times, China has gained remarkable competitive advantage when it comes to the development of 5G technology. Chinese companies seem to dominate emerging the 5G technology market in the world. Highlighting threats to its National Security, the United States (US) fuels the prevent of use of technology from Chinese technology giants such as Huawei and ZTE in the core of galloping 5G networks. This dispute which would shape ties between Beijing and Washington is at a possibility of having huge global economic waves. In this context, the focus of this research lies on the national context of Sri Lanka on the need of adaptation of 5G networks despite the predicaments while identifying possibilities of encountering defined threats of the current economic wave of the country, the possibility of resulting a captivation in China’s Digital Belt and Road Initiative and loops of current disarmed cyber military capacity of Sri Lanka to tackle if posed a National Security threat. Therefore, the research focuses on the need of establishment of a firm cyber policy and cyber institution capacity building. To substantiate this research, it methodically incorporated research articles, books, and other relevant literature. Moreover, an interview with leading telecom experts to strengthen the study. These methodologies created an empirically grounded and contextually applicable argument in Sri Lanka's current socio-political context.
